ROSH HASHANA TEACHING
We are entering into a season called “The High Holy Days” which are the fall feasts mention in the Bible. These days in Hebrew are known as “Moadim” or the appointed times or seasons. These are the final three of the seven moadim mentioned in the Bible starting with Passover, Pesach, First Fruits, Yom Habikkurim, Pentecost, Shavout, Yom Teruah (Rosh Hashana), the Feast of Trumpets, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, and Sukkot, Feast of Tabernacles.
The High Holy Days
Rosh Hashanah, Feast of Trumpets, begins at sunset on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, (today) through Friday, October 4, at sundown.
The Days of Awe begin sunset on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, and last until Yom Kippur.
Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, perhaps the holiest day of the year, begins at sunset Friday, October 11, and ends sunset Saturday, October 12.
Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, begins at sunset Wednesday, October 16, and ends at sunset on Wednesday, October 23.
ROSH HASHANA/YOM TERUAH
“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.” Leviticus 23:24
‘And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. For you it is a day of blowing the trumpets.” Numbers 29:1
At Rosh Hashana we get an AWAKENING BLAST, Yom Kippur is a time of cleansing, and SUKKOT is a time to abide in His presence.
The feasts get you into where you are in the right place at the right time. When you are in that place, “One transforming word of God, with a Holy Spirit fire impartation can change your life forever.” – Rabbi Curt Landry
Rosh Hashanah, commonly referred to as the Jewish New Year, literally means ‘beginning of the year.’ In the Bible, it was referred to as Yom Teruah, which means ‘day of shouting and blasting.’ Hence the other name for Rosh Hashanah: Feast of Trumpets. Rosh Hashanah is the first of the Jewish High Holy Days. The 2-day celebration begins on the first of Tishrei, which typically falls in September or October.
Because Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, it’s often referred to as the Head of the Year. Since the head is where our mind, eyes, ears, and mouth are, this Head of the Year signifies that wherever our focus is, that is the direction we will be led. When our head, and year, is focused on the Lord, we will align our time and resources with His will. It’s like putting on the yoke of God. The yoke turns the head and directs where our feet will go and what we will see. God’s yoke is the only one that’s without burden and points us in a direction that will bless us and others.
God promised we would be blessed if we follow His commands…“And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; You shall be above only, and not beneath, If you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.” – Deuteronomy 28:13
The interesting thing is God command us to observe them, but not HOW to observe them, so the rabbis came up with traditions on how to observe them.
We are entering into the year 5785 on the Jewish Calendar. With God there is nothing without a purpose and in Hebrew it is no different.
5 = Grace 7 = Perfection 8 = New Beginning 5 = Grace
This season there is a double portion of Grace. For some it will be a new beginning or a do-over that leads us closer to perfection which is Yaweh, God.
We are in the decade of the 80’s on the Jewish calendar.
80 in Hebrew is the letter Pey which means blow, scatter, edge, speak, communicate, mouth
Symbols and Observances of Rosh Hashanah
Some symbols and observances of Rosh Hashanah include:
- Apples
- Apples represent the fruitfulness of the coming year. Eating an apple dipped in honey symbolizes our desire for a sweet year, and other special foods are symbolic of the New Year’s blessings.
- Honey
- Honey is used as a dip for bread (challah) and a reminder of the hope of a sweet new year.
- Shofars
- Shofars are used to herald in God’s presence and joy for the coming year.
- Pomegranates
- Pomegranates coincidently have 613 seeds. There are also 613 commandments in the Torah. Customarily, the seeds are consumed to represent that we now are equipped to walk in the commandments of the Lord by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Torah—God’s Word
- God’s Word is read during Rosh Hashanah celebrations, and blessings are recited to each other.
- One blessing is “Leshanah tovah tikateiv veteichateim,” which means “May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.”
- A special prayer called Tashlich is said near a body of water (an ocean, river, pond, etc.), in the evocation of the verse “And You shall cast their sins into the depths of the sea
BLOWING OF THE SHOFAR
The Shofar will be sounded during the Rosh Hashanah celebration.
TEKIAH, a single blast, long and loud
SHEVARIM, three broken blasts
TRUAH, nine blasts
TEKIAH GEDOLAH, a single, long blast at the conclusion
Every year for the past several years, I have asked God what He is saying for the coming season. Here is the prophetic word He gave me for this coming year.

Exodus 19:5-6
5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
“In this coming year, the anointing for kings and priests will be activated. The kingly anointing is for current and future authority that you may or may not have walked in. There is an anointing coming in this holy season that will empower you to walk on serpents and scorpions, and utterly squash the very schemes of the enemy.
As David was anointed king at a young age, even children and youth are being anointed with the kingly anointing. Unlike David, who had to wait to become king, parents watch your children and listen to the things they are saying, for I am instilling in them My wisdom to overcome the challenges they face. Even now you will be amazed at the strategies I am placing in them.
Areas of your life that have seemed dormant and unfruitful are about to spring forth with life. Seeds you have planted in adversity are about to bring an abundance of harvest, as My word says, “that there will not be room enough to contain it.”
In this kingly anointing you will be stepping into areas of influence you never dreamed. I am “*entrusting you with resources, influence and authority” you have never known. This is the kingly anointing. I will give you the “Key of David” that opens and no one can shut, and shuts what no man can open. As the key was entrusted to Eliakim, so I am entrusting you, through this kingly anointing, to use the key to open the ARMORY, where the weapons of influence reside, the TREASURY, yes, the very TREASURY OF HEAVEN, where all of Heaven’s RESOURCES will be at your disposal, and the THRONE ROOM, where My very Presence dwells, wherein lies Heavenly AUTHORITY.
Also in this coming year, the priestly anointing will fall upon you. As you minister to me in this priestly anointing, you will experience a greater open heaven, not just during church services but also at home, at work, in your travels, where ever you are, because my cloud will accompany you. Those with whom you come in contact will notice you are different and want to know what is going on. Because My spirit is upon you and within you, they will desire to know the God that you serve.
This will be a season of CONTENDING FOR THE ALTARS. When the children of Israel won a battle or war, they set up altars to Me as a remembrance of what I did for them. This is a time for you to remember what I have done for you. Testify to one another of what I have done and in doing so I will release more of My Spirit to accomplish My will on this earth.
You are to no longer be seeking a sign. According to My Word, signs will follow you. Mark 16:17-18.
Yeshuah said in Matthew 16:4, “an evil generation seeks for a sign…” You are to be My sign in the earth.
As David went to visit his brother at the battle with the Philistines, he encountered a giant, Goliath. He was defying the very God the army of Israel served and a holy anger rose up within him. David CONTENDED for the ALTAR and defeated the giant, killing him with the rock and then cutting his head off.
There are some giants in your life that have not been dealt with. They are still taunting you, mocking you and defying the Lord your God. In this season of your King & Priest anointing, you must contend with those giants. You are in a war, yet you do not realize it. You must fight, you must CONTEND just as David did. He could have sided with Saul and the rest of the army, but he did not. He rose up and CONTENDED FOR HIS FAITH, AND THE HONOR OF THE LORD MOST HIGH. The victory was already his, but he still had to CONTEND FOR IT.
Some of you are weary with battling multiple things the enemy has thrown at you. You are in need of help. It is written, “I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.” JUDE 3
IN THIS SEASON… My word will prove itself true in your eyes. “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” Isaiah 54:17. You are not alone, 2 Kings 6:16, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 1 John 4:4, “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
YOUR KINGLY TRAIN
As in Isaiah 6:1, “I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up and the train of his robe filled the temple.”
The length of a king’s train was determined by the battles and wars he had won. The victorious king would remove a portion of the defeated one’s train and add it to his own as a sign of victory in battle. In this coming season as you CONTEND for your altar, the battles you win you receive rewards of the victory and reminders of the victory, and these will be add to your kingly train. Not to become a status symbol but as a way to remember what I have accomplished through you. The more battles you win, the more will be added.
Some are in need of healing. CONTEND FOR IT.
Some are in need of finances. CONTEND FOR IT.
Some are in need of restoration. CONTEND FOR IT.
Whatever you need. Find 4 or 5 scriptures for your need, no matter what it may be. Write them down. CONTEND over those scriptures daily until you have won the battle and you have received that for which you have CONTENDED.”
